Meet Patty Ortiz

Founder of KNS

Hello! I am Patty, an aerospace engineer, a professional with an extensive track record at NASA and in the aerospace industry, and the founder of Kids Need Space.
For more than 22 years, I have worked at the frontier of what is possible. I have participated in the design and testing of spacecraft and aircraft that have pushed the limits of speed, innovation, and exploration. I have been part of teams where the decisions we made contributed directly to shaping the future of space and aeronautical research.
As the space economy continues to grow, I was concerned about those children who might never have the opportunity to fall in love with science. I founded Kids Need Space because I know the impact a single spark of inspiration can have. I lived it in my own story: the moment someone made me feel that engineering was not only possible for me, but that it was a path where I belonged. That moment changed my life forever.
Kids Need Space brings hands-on STEM experiences, rover kits, and real engineering concepts directly to children, especially to those who have never been told that space is theirs to explore too. Because the truth is that it is.
Space belongs to everyone. And the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators is already out there. They just need the right tools, the necessary support, and someone who believes in them first.
That is what we do here. We give children space to dream, to build, to discover who they are destined to be.
